Head on over to your ‘add plugins’ page, and enter key word “beta testing” and you should find this plugin, WordPress Beta Tester. Once installed, activate the plugin, however you would need to de activate others. Head on over to tools, and click on “beta testing”.

Ensure you click on “Bleeding edge nightlies” and click on save changes. Then click on the “head on over and upgrade now” link.

Once there, you just click on update automatically, then you’re done! Re activate your other plugins one at a time ensuring it’s compatibility. Have fun! I sure am!

So far, everything works well upgrading from 2.9.2 stable. As you can see, I am running buddy press plugin here as well.

Dashboard wise, you can see here, is a bit more cleaner in my opinion.

The way of installing plugins also has changed a little.

A thorough walk through can be found here. If you are upgrading from 2.9.2 to 3.0 beta 1, go right ahead, all the plugins I have had installed is working here. Including Simple Press Forum.
